10 colourful crafters to be totally inspired by
Here at Mustard, we are forever inspired by the makers, creators, painters + illustrators of the world. They brighten our days and ignite our creative sparks.
To celebrate all the goodness that handmade magic brings us, we wanted to share some adventurous crafters who aren't afraid to dazzle with colour, sparkle and positivity!
Kit PalaskasÂ
Kit Palaskas is a crafting queen. She specialises in the big + the bold, and has created all sorts of large-scale props + installations for brands across the world. She's also an author, designer, illustrator, runner-of-workshops, collector-of-trinkets + cat-mum. We love how she folds handmade craft techniques into her playful, multi-disciplinary practice.
Â
Ellen BashoreÂ
Fibre artist Ellen Bashore creates all sorts of handmade and upcycled treasures, but we especially adore her wiggly, tufted wall art. They're so deliciously tactile, and her colour combinations are a feast! (We're also big fans of Bert the rug slasher, and his little friend Buzz!)
Â
Beci Orpin
Artist and craftsperson Beci Orpin has a curious, optimistic style that spans many mediums, and we love them all! Colour plays a big role in her mixed-media collages, digital illustrations, physical installations + murals, and we can happily get lost in her compositions.
Â
Rachel BurkeÂ
For a big dose of craft fantasy, we can't go past Rachel Bourke. Ruffles, tulle, tinsel + rhinestones -- what more could you ask for?! We are so dazzled by Rachel's wearable, more-is-more art. Even better - she often shares how to DIY a lot of it yourself!
Â
Bobbi Lockyer
Bobbi's artwork spans many mediums, but there is always a strong sense of colour, culture and community in her work. We love how she tells such beautiful, inclusive stories through her pastel palettes.
Â
Jeff McCann
Artist + illustrator (and self-described cardboard queer!) Jeff McCann creates loads of colourful clothing, jewellery + props made from recycled materials. His creations are so vibrant, such fun, and always thoughtfully consider sustainability.
Â
Jessi Raulet
The artist and designer behind Etta Vee, Jessi's handpainted designs always burst with colour, texture and positivity. An eyeful of her swirling brushstrokes is enough to brighten anyone's day!
Â
Rainie Owen
Local (to our Australian office) fibre artist Rainie is a woman of many talents. Whether it's weaving, pottery or pom poms she's got the skills as well as all the supplies to get busy making! Fancy getting stuck into some pretty balls of yarn? Tuck into her book for loads of projects that will make your home even more wonderful with a piece of your very own handmade work.
Â
Phil Ferguson
It's hard not to be totally charmed by Phil Ferguson's culinary-themed, crocheted creations. Their big, squishy hats + novelty outfits really tickle our fancy. Phil has also just started a YouTube series of Not Tutorials where they show you some of their crochet practice!
Â
Kara Whitten
For a delightful dash of colourful decor and crafty DIY decorations, Kara Whitten (aka Kailo Chic) is a must! Every creation of hers is bright and bursting with joy.
