Meet Hannah - the start of Team USA!
You may have already heard (we have mentioned it just a few times on Instagram!) but we’re launching Mustard Made in the US soon. Very, very, very soon. We’re feeling all of the emotions - terrified, nervous, a little confused but also SO excited to be able to get our lockers in the hands of all the lovely Americans out there!
The locker is a staple in American culture so Mustard just works, it is something we have known we would do since we started the business, and we feel so lucky that we are able to make it happen already. It’s a huge new venture for us as we haven’t launched in a new country since we launched in the UK way back in 2018, but we quickly realised we were going to have to do this one a little differently. For starters, we don’t have a third sister who lives in America to manage everything on the ground and help set up the business. We needed someone to fill that gap, so that’s where Hannah comes in! We’d love to introduce you to the newest member of the Mustard family, we think she’s awesome!
All About Hannah
Job: US Manager @ Mustard Made!
Lives with: Fiancé Tom and our sausage dog, Minton :)
Favourite country: Ooh this is a tough one. I should probably say the US, but I’m going for Australia and specifically the East Coast, because it feels like home. I’d love to explore more of Italy though!
Favourite drink: Anything fruity + iced.
Favourite food: Potatoes because they are so versatile, roasties are my fave.
Favourite hobby: Does scrolling through Rightmove count as a hobby? If so, that’s mine!
Favourite read: I have a subscription to Courier Magazine, which is all about independent businesses. It’s the perfect read on my journey to the office and a great learning tool too.
Favourite item of clothing: Oooh it has to be my wedding dress - a sale piece from Temperley London + I can’t wait to wear it.
Favourite locker: My Lowdown in Sage - I got her as a treat to myself earlier this year, before I started working at Mustard. She sits in my bedroom + keeps everything nice ’n’ tidy… or serves as a sleeping area for Minton - he loves the bottom shelf.
Hi locker lovers!
As the newest member of the Mustard team, I’m here to help Becca and Jess take Mustard to America - one of the most exciting (and scary!) challenges for the business so far. I joined Mustard towards the end of June, as the first US hire, and I’m based out of our pretty little London office! I’ve had an amazing few months settling in and it’s such a joy to be working with a wonderful, talented, creative bunch of lovely people.
So far my role has been really versatile (which I love!) and I’ve learnt so much in a short space of time. As well as learning the foundations of the business by shadowing each team member at what they do best, I’ve been getting our new US site prepped and doing lots of research into our US customers. I’m excited to see how my role will progress once our beautiful lockers are stateside as I’ll be the go-to-girl for anything US related - looking after our customers, our lockers, and our stockists too!
For now, we thought it would be fun to take you on a “day in the life”, so get ready to join me for my morning alarm…
After I’ve had morning hugs with Minton (the sausage dog) and finished getting ready, I hop on the tube if it’s an office day. I’m lucky to have a super short commute to our London HQ and it’s always such good vibes in the office. Lizzy + I tend to be wearing some sort of matching gingham outfit and of course it’s decked out with lockers (we each have a Shorty under our desk - mine’s Navy!), and lots of beautiful prints + plants too.
I spend my mornings checking up on emails, going through my to-do list and getting prepped for the day ahead. I find that I’m more creative in the AM, so I’ve been researching potential US stockists, looking over our branded stationery… you’ll be surprised how many words are spelt differently in America… and preparing copy for the new US website that Becca will approve! We have a UK Team catch up twice a week, and a Global Team catch up every month. There’s 14 of us now (we’re small but mighty!), so it’s a great chance for us to update each-other on what’s been happening across the pond.
Lunchtime quickly creeps around and we have plenty of Deliveroo options - which is both a blessing and a curse. I’ve been trying to get something different each time, but I always end up going back for some sort of halloumi dish - yum! In the afternoon I tend to work on more admin based tasks, such as updating product descriptions and analysing current sales data to see what lockers our existing American customers are loving. I’ve been stepping in as a Happiness Hero some days too, so I can get hands on troubleshooting experience. Making customers happy is one of our favourite things to do at Mustard, and there really is a caring person behind every email that genuinely wants to make everyone’s Mustard journey the best it can be.
It gets to the end of the working day and I’m genuinely a little sad to be leaving the office - don’t tell Tom! We check in with each other to make sure our tasks are wrapped up for the day and we’ll always lend a hand if something needs to be finished - there’s a real team spirit here. I usually pick up some yummy food to be cooked for dinner on the way home (because a weekly shop whilst living in London is almost unheard of…) and spend the rest of my evening chilling with a docuseries!
Although I’ve only been at Mustard for a few months, I already feel so lucky to be able to call this my job! Becca and Jess are the loveliest people you could ever work for, and it’s really inspiring to spend my days with such a hardworking team, who all share the same end goal - spreading the locker love! I can’t wait to see what else the rest of 2021 has in store for us, I have a feeling it’s going to be really good.
If you fancy staying up to date with our launch in America, we’d love for you to sign up to our US mailing list. Or if you have any questions, pop me an email on firstname.lastname@example.org - I’d love to hear from you x
