2022 wrap up: 10 highlights from the year
Before we dive right into 2023, we want to take the time to celebrate and appreciate everything we have achieved together this year. Here are some of our favourite moments of 2022.
2022 is the year that the world started to open up once again. We got to go on planes, trains, and automobiles and visit events in person (yay!) Some of the best moments for us at Mustard were about connecting with each other, our team, our partners, business pals, and of course you!
Poppy joined our rainbow
Colour is at the heart of Mustard, so launching our new colour Poppy gets first place in our wrap-up this year! Poppy is a showstopper, an iconic shade of red with a retro-inspired vibe. The name? That was easy! We named it Poppy after co-founder Jess’ daughter! It has been a treat to show off our lovely Poppy images this Christmas. Have you seen our festive Instagram feed?!
Officially launched in Europe
A huge milestone for us this year was launching our dedicated European warehouse and website to offer our European customers a brilliant Mustard-style experience. Long story short, before Brexit, approximately 20% of orders that came through our UK website went off to Europe. That all changed in January 2020 post-Brexit, shipping to Europe became slow and unpredictable, which was not the vibe we were going for! With our new warehouse in Slovakia now up and running, we can get all your Mustard goodies shipped out fast and customs-hassle-free! It has been a big win for our team and customers!
Maison et Objet Trade Show in Paris
To get our European re-launch off to a mighty good start, we ticked off another big goal — we had our first stand at Maison et Objet in Paris! This is THE trade show we have had on our wish list since the start of Mustard. Our team worked incredibly hard and with such pride to bring together a fabulous stand where we could show off our range in all its colourful glory. While trade show days can be long and tiring, it was a fun experience to connect with people, talk about lockers, make new friends and welcome new stockists into the fold.
Our Mustard family grew
This year we welcomed eight new team members: Alex, Alicia, Chanyce, Hannah B.E, Jessica, Laura, Sarah and Sophie H. We are so lucky to have these stand-out stars here at Team Mustard!
Side note: We have more growing to do! Check out our work with us page or sign up to our mailing list to hear about more openings in 2023.
Build it videos
This is the one I (Becca) have been waiting to write for years. Our shiny new how-to videos are finally out in the world and we absolutely LOVE them! I am admittedly a bit of a perfectionist, so these videos make my detail-loving heart happy! We believe in being helpful around here and these videos are absolutely just that! They will walk you through your build step-by-step and point out all the little things we don’t want you to miss. It was a labour of locker love, a huge amount of collaborative effort and some incredible editing from the A-team at Headjam. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, take a look here!
Over £100k donated to Beam
One of our proudest moments this year was reaching the incredible milestone of donating over £100,000 to our charity partner, Beam. From very early on, we knew that giving back was something we wanted to be a part of Mustard's DNA. So once we had things established, we began partnering with Beam by donating £5 from every UK order. As of November 2022, we have donated £121,735 (wow!) to the charity. We can’t wait to see where the future takes us with Beam and admire the amazing impact the charity has on people's lives.
Embracing the rainbow
This year our rainbow palette was given a chance to shine! We took an epic road trip to Melbourne and created some of our favourite locker looks at WowHaus for the launch of Poppy. Discover the wonderful world of WowHaus or take a peek at Sophie's bright and joyful home!
This year we were proud to partner with one of our stockists, Heal's, to celebrate London Pride. We loved seeing our rainbow of lockers in the window display of Heal's on Tottenham Court Road in London — it was a big pinch-me moment for us! We also shared a colourful curation of LGBTQIA+ creatives that we love to follow on Instagram. Here at Mustard, we believe colour is a powerful part of expressing who you are and we wanted to encourage people to express their rainbow selves with pride.
Launching in Maisonette, our first US stockist
Since launching Mustard in the US, it has been a dream of ours to be stocked at Maisonette. And this year our dreams came true! We are so proud to be partnering with an iconic, female-founded brand as our first stockist in America. Becoming a best-selling product on Maisonette was the cherry on top for us!
This year in the US was all about establishing our roots, growing sustainably, learning about customers and spreading the word. Stay tuned America — we have some big plans for you next year!
New adventures around the world
A moment that filled our hearts with joy was Poppy getting to visit Australia for the first time! From starring in a photoshoot to spending time with her cousins at the beach, it was so wonderful having Poppy in Australia. The first of many visits!
That was not the only adventure this year! Jess and Hannah finally crossed the pond from London to visit the USA! It was a whirlwind trip that included trips to the warehouse, meeting the amazing team in Atlanta and getting invited to tour the biggest UPS hub in America! They also got to visit a dog cafe and pet cute doggies. It was probably the thing they talked about most!
Our colourful new London office
This year as our team grew, so did our need for space! We moved into our beautiful new office in Camden, London and brought in the talented Lisa from Born and Bred Studio to make it feel really Mustard! We love how she has accented the space with our signature colour palette, brought in plants, a ginormous mustard yellow sofa and the best bit? Our rainbow line-up of Skinnies! This space truly feels like us.
2022 has been a wonderfully big and challenging year, and we could not have done it without you, our lovely customers! All we can say is a big thank you, we cannot wait to share what we have in store for 2023 with you next year!
Love Becca + Jess
